Podcast Project

This is an analysis of my process for creating the podcast/microsite, and a reflection of my progress toward course objectives. The aim of this project is to figure out how Disney contribute our perceptions of gender roles. My group member and me mainly focus the podcast on how Disney films teach people to break down traditional roles. The project helps me to gain the sense of collaboration and responsibility as well as develop my reading skills.

Pre-Production: Preparation and Planning

This is an excerpt from the reading article " What is toxic masculinity". I develop the skill of engaged reading. In particular, I learnt to make annotations to find the main idea of the article that helps me to gain a better understanding of the reading. However, I think I should ask more questions when I am reading because it will stimulate deeper thinking and help me to gain new perspectives.

This is a annotation from fairy tale movie exploratory writing. I learnt to read through various kinds of texts. I found it's intersting to acquire knowledge from videos becuase there are many hidden plots that implicitly relfect some issues. Making annotations on specific scenes offer me new insights of the film. Specifically, I learnt some progressive roles of female character represented by Belle here.

This is a peer evaluation of exploratory writing. I understand the importance of peer review. The classmate points out that I didn't illustrate the gender roles as the topic required and it offers a great suggestion for me to focus on the main topic. I should double check the requirement of the assignment and if each statement of my writing contribute to supporting the main idea.

Production: Creating Podcast and Microsite

This is one of the main topics of my script. After Yinda introduces the progressive roles of women in marvel, I supplement the argument about the shifting values represented by men. I leant the importance of having a process when I am composing text. Actually, it takes me some time to reading articles and annotating films so that I could gain the idea of men's changing roles.

This is the screenshot of our podcast script. I integrated our members' sources and outlines and put them into separate segments to make a script. I learnt the importance of collaboration. Every member has their own work, such as making microsite or editing the audio. After dividung our work, we focus on our own part and it is more effective for us to make the podcast.

Looking Ahead in Three Paragraphs

learning from the mistakes

We have some problems when we made rehersal before actual recording. At first, it took us more than an hour to discuss about the introductory and first segment part. It also took a great amount of time to check the script when we went back to make recordings. Later, we decided to rehersal a small part and record it immdefiately, which grealt improved our efficiency in makeing podcast.

Skills of collaboration

Firstly, we should have a clear divison of the assignments based on everyone's advantages. For example, if someone is good at technology, he may be able to edit the audio. Secondly, we should communicate often so that we can wrestle the problems immediately if is came out. Lastly, we it's important to set up deadlines, which help to check everyone member is on the right track.

In the podcast, I talk about the shifting roles of men in marvel and changing values of women in star wars. I would like to remain the part about female role in star war, but focus the whole essay only on the women's role. I am going to illustrate it through different genres of films in Disney. The related topics that my group member mentions in the podcast give me great insight to do so.
